I fish almost exclusively from land and there's always carp rolling in the shallows I could never touch. Took a 6lb common on my third outing - barb held it the whole way in on the reel. Didn't have to spend $200 to find out I like this.

Honestly bought it expecting plastic junk. Forks are metal, arrows are actual stainless with real barbs, and the leather brace is riveted not glued. Nothing on it feels flimsy.

The brace is the whole thing for me. I'd read the horror stories about the shaft skimming your knuckles and nearly didn't buy a slingbow at all. With your forearm strapped in, the arrow tracks clear. Shot it forty times the first weekend, hand's fine.

Never shot a bow in my life. Put the laser dot on a paper plate in the yard for an hour, went to the river the next morning and stuck a gar. Reel cranks smooth, no backlash.

Everything you need for your first shot - nothing else to buy:

  • Molded pistol-grip frame with metal fork arms
  • Latex power bands and pouch
  • Riveted leather studded wrist brace - transfers draw load into your forearm and keeps your hand clear of the shaft
  • Mounted spincast retrieval reel, pre-spooled
  • Laser sight for beginner-friendly aiming
  • Stainless steel barbed arrows - the barbs are what hold the fish on the way back in

1. Slide your support hand and forearm into the leather brace so the cuff wraps your wrist, then grip the frame in a full fist.

2. Extend that arm toward the target, elbow locked or near-locked. The brace takes the band load instead of your wrist.

3. Lay the arrow along the frame, draw the pouch straight back to your cheek or shoulder.

4. Put the laser dot on the fish and release. Line pays out from the reel as the arrow flies.

5. Crank the spincast reel to bring the arrow - and the fish - back to the bank.

Start on a target in the yard before you head to the water. An hour of practice is all most people need.

Bowfishing is legal in all 50 states - but the specific rules vary state by state, so always check your local regulations before you go.

In general, you need the same fishing licence you already hold, and the method is used for rough fish (carp, gar and other non-game species) taken from bank or boat. Many states set no limit on rough fish.

Check your state wildlife agency's rough-fish and bowfishing rules for species lists, permitted waters and any additional permits before your first outing.

What Customers Say

Real reviews from verified buyers

Same lake I've fished for eleven years, same carp sitting in a foot of water. First time I've ever been able to do anything about them. Line pays out clean and the fish comes back on the shaft.
Jonah B.
Walked a mile of bank with it hanging off my arm. Try that with a full bow rig and a case. Short reflexive shots at close range is exactly what this thing is for.
Ray S.
Took it out for gar in the shallows below the dam. Two hits in the first hour. The spincast makes retrieval stupid simple - push, shoot, crank.
Marcus T.
Metal forks, stainless arrows, riveted leather. I've handled the cheap marketplace ones in a store and this isn't that. Feels like equipment.
Wes P.
The studded brace is the reason I bought this specific one. Every other kit I looked at ignores the fact that the shaft runs right over your hand. This one actually solves it.
Tommy L.
Bands still shooting the same after a full season. No cracking, no stretch that I can notice. Frame hasn't flexed at all.
Curtis M.
Zero archery background. Practised on a target in the backyard first, laser dot does most of the work. Landed a fish inside two outings.
Nathan K.
Was worried about the legality side more than anything. Checked my state's rough fish rules, regular fishing licence covers it, and that was that. Wish I'd stopped stalling two seasons ago.

THE QUESTION NOBODY ELSE ANSWERS

You crank it back and that thing grazes over your hand at Mach holy chit.

r/Bowfishing

Your Hand Shouldn't Be The Arrow Rest.

The riveted leather cuff wraps your wrist and lower forearm, so the band load transfers into the forearm instead of torquing the wrist. Your support arm stays locked and steady through the draw.

The arrow tracks along the frame - not across your knuckles. That clearance is the whole reason the brace and the frame are designed as one piece.

No other kit in this category leads with hand protection. It should be the first thing they tell you.

WHAT SHIPS IN THE BOX

Six Parts. One Box. Nothing Else To Buy.

Most bowfishing setups make you source the arrows, the rest and the reel separately. This one arrives assembled and complete.

Overhead flat-lay of the complete Ventra slingbow kit on dark canvas
Every piece of the rig, laid out exactly as it ships.
1

Metal fork arms

The load-bearing frame. Where cheap kits use moulded plastic.

2

Latex bands

The power. Draw them back and they store the energy that drives the shot.

3

Spincast reel

Retrieval. Mounted and spooled - pays line out, cranks the arrow back.

4

Laser sight

Aim. A dot on the target instead of instinctive guesswork.

5

Barbed stainless arrows

Retention. The rearward barb is what keeps the fish on the shaft.

6

Leather studded brace

Protection and draw stability. Riveted leather over wrist and forearm.

Unbox it and shoot the same day.

WHERE THESE THINGS USUALLY FAIL

Not Another Flimsy Dollar-Store Slingshot.

The frame, the arrows and the brace are the three places a cheap kit gives out. Here is what each one is actually made of.

Across six comparable marketplace listings in this category, the star rating ceiling sits at 4.3 - most land at 4.0 to 4.1. That is measurable, persistent dissatisfaction with build quality in this tier, and it is exactly where Ventra spends its money.
Close-up of the metal fork arms

Metal fork arms

The forks take the full band load on every draw. Ours are metal, not moulded plastic - the part that snaps first on a budget frame is the part built to hold here.

Close-up of stainless steel barbed arrow shafts

Stainless steel arrows

Solid stainless shafts with barbed points. They go into water, come back out, and go in again - which is the entire point of a reusable projectile.

Close-up of riveted leather brace construction with studs

Riveted leather brace

Real leather, riveted rather than glued or stitched thin. Studded construction across the cuff so the piece that protects your forearm is not the flimsiest part of the rig.

REAL SHOOTERS, REAL BANKS

Shot From The Bank, Not A Boat.

No generator, no light bar, no kayak. Just daylight, a shoreline, and a rig you carry in one hand.

FROM BOX TO FIRST SHOT

You Don't Need To Be An Archer.

Three movements. If you can hold a fist out in front of you and pull with your other hand, you can shoot this.

1

Brace up

Slide your support hand and forearm into the leather cuff so it wraps the wrist. Grip the frame in a full fist and extend that arm toward the water, elbow near-locked.

2

Put the dot on it

Lay the arrow along the frame and switch the laser sight on. You get an aiming point to line up - not instinctive shooting the way a bowhunter does it.

3

Draw and release

Pull the pouch straight back with your other hand, hold, release. Then thumb the spincast button and crank to bring the arrow - and whatever is on it - back to you.

Practise on a target in the yard first. Build the shot before you take it to the water - that first outing goes a lot better when you already know how the release feels.

WHAT OWNERS SAY

Bought It. Shot It. Here's The Verdict.

Barb held the first carp I hit. Reeled straight back to me. That was the whole question answered.

Dale R. Shore fishing 3 months / First slingbow Verified buyer

The brace is the part I underestimated. I was flinching on the draw with a bare frame before this - the cuff takes the load into the forearm and my wrist stays out of it. Two sessions in and the flinch is gone.

Marcus H. Weekend angler / Carp water Verified buyer

Laser sight does more than I expected. I have never shot a bow in my life and I was landing on the target in the yard inside twenty minutes. Nothing about it felt like guesswork.

Owen S. First-timer / Backyard target practice Verified buyer
Wes T. customer photo

Metal forks, steel arrows, real riveted leather. Opened the box and it did not feel like the plastic stuff I had been scrolling past.

Wes T. Bowhunter / Off-season use Verified buyer

Solid rig and it does what it says. Only thing is the reel takes a bit of getting used to - I over-cranked the first couple of retrieves and had a small tangle. Sorted itself out after three or four goes and I have had no trouble since.

Everything was in the box. Did not have to order a single extra thing before my first outing.
